Dan Scott and Cheryl Kleymann, 2010 Chapter Couple
And Membership Enhancement Coordinators _________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Greetings to all of our fellow Gold wing Riders! We have a GREAT start for our Chapter Pride Basket - Chapter E's Bounty!
Donations for our "Pirates Chest" so far include gold dollars, a Cheesecake Factory
Gift Card, a man's watch and a ladies watch. Keep those donations coming in by bringing items to the Chapter Meeting on August
10th. Items needed are money, gift cards and jewelry, items you would find in pirates loot!
The Oklahoma Rally in October is fast approaching. We only have 2 Chapter Meetings left before the Rally, so please
bring your contributions to the upcoming meeting. We would like to get 100 percent participation so that we can have the
BEST Chapter Pride Basket at the Rally. If
you are unable to attend the meeting, contact us at 694-4138 or by email at cherylkley@yahoo.com. We will be more than
happy to pick up any donations.
July has been
a quite month for Cheryl and myself, we haven't rode as much as we would have liked to, but then it has been a bit on the
hot side. I'm still working on
recruiting new members to GWRRA and to Chapter E, (Ken is concerned as to where we are going to put them) and we are working
really hard to retain those who's Membership is expiring. I have the question asked, "since you recruit so many new members,
why don't you just forget about the expiring ones"! Well, I find it much easier to retain the Members of GWRRA
than to explain why someone new should join, and besides, the expiring Members are already part of our family. Cheryl and
I have two new recruits for this month, and we have retained Seventeen from the expiring list, oh and did I mention we got
back one couple that had let their Membership expire!
We
are planning to attend the Kansas District rally in August, lets not forget to register and go support our friends in Kansas.
If you have or haven't been to a rally, we would enjoy having you ride with us, give us a call and let’s make Ken and
Dianne proud of Chapter E for having the largest turn out of any Chapter at the Kansas rally. Cheryl and I seem to find something different at each rally we have attended,
everything from new vendors with new toys for the Wing to eating crawdads. I know you will make new friends and find something
new for your Wing, or your Sweetie! That's what this great organization is all about, Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge.
Have a great August and lets all try to bring a new person to a ride or a meeting, lets help Ken and Dianne have 150 active
members that attend our Gatherings and or Rides.
Please
be Safe !

Directors'
Corner KEN AND DIANNE HACKL This year the “Hot August Nights” seem to have arrived sometime in late
June. Even though we have had some record breaking temperatures, we have continued to have some pretty good rides with temperatures
topping 100 and heat indexes in the
triple digits; however, we need to use our better judgment when making that decision whether to ride or not. If the rides
not going to be fun, why do it. I guarantee you, if a small group of people show up for a long dinner ride and the temperature’s
in the 100’s, most of those people showed up because their friends did and would welcome the chance to shorten the ride.
Don’t be shy about voicing your opinion, we can always reschedule that ride for another day. Last summer we decided
to cancel a Sunday ride if the temperature climbed above 95 and marked our calendar so. This year we didn’t do that.
Instead, we have moved some of our Sunday rides up to six-o-clock in the evening to avoid the heat. The ride home is great.
We use to call these “Pie Rides” even though nobody ever had pie.
The
high temperatures of August are the reason “The Bug Gut Ride” was created. By the time we leave the Warehouse
Market in Sand Springs at 9 o-clock, we’re into prime riding temps. And there is a very slim chance of getting a heatstroke
or a sunburn. So, what we have is a
great ride, great Mexican food at Mexico Joe’s in Stillwater and a chance to win some money, and the ride home is usually
jacket weather. In August!, what more could you ask.By the way, we’ve ordered extra bugs for this year. The Cicadas have already arrived.
We hope to see you all there, Good hunting!!On another note, let’s not forget Chapter J and Chapter P’s Anniversaries this month on the 14th
(J) and the 15th (P). When they introduce the Chapters, I’d like to see a good turnout from Chapter E. Let’s
support our sister Chapters.
Don’t forget to pre-register for the “Oklahoma State
Convention” in Muskogee coming up in October. If you want to join the rest of us for the banquet meal, get your registration
in before the deadline.Callie Armstrong
is heading up the “Talent Committee” this year. We’ve got people in our Chapter that play instruments or
sing or have other hidden talents. There’s a place for you. We also usually have a group sacrifice for the show. Get
with Callie, get involved. Let’s not let Chapter E be left out this year.
Remember: The Bend in the Road is not the End of the Road,
Unless you Miss the Turn!
